In awe of Angelina Jolie’s bravery

I had another post planned today but after hearing the news of Angelina Jolie’s preventative double mastectomy, I just wanted to share how in awe I am of her courage and bravery.

Jolie shares her reflections behind the decision in a letter in today’s New York Times, talking about the discovery of “faulty” gene BRCA1, which increases her risk of breast and ovarian cancer, her decision to pursue the double mastectomy, the “nipple delay” procedure, and ultimate breast tissue removal and reconstruction of her breasts.

It’s a moving letter from someone who obviously places a high value on her personal privacy, but was willing to share her decision knowing that it might be able to highlight a dangerous disease that affects the lives of many and help women across the globe to make their own educated decisions.

Bravo Angelina Jolie! You are an inspiration!
